Care, Damage & Deposit Policy

This policy explains how hired equipment should be cared for, how damage is handled, and how deposits are managed.

Your responsibilities during hire

While a wheel is on hire, you are responsible for:

  • using the equipment for its intended purpose

  • following the care and safety guidance provided

  • keeping the wheel clean and in good working condition

  • ensuring the wheel is kept in a safe, dry environment

The wheel should only be used indoors and must not be exposed to rain, excessive moisture, or extreme temperatures.

Care & cleaning

Basic care is straightforward and expected:

  • clean the wheel and splash pan after each use

  • avoid forcing clay beyond the wheel’s recommended capacity

  • keep water away from electrical components

  • do not modify or dismantle the wheel

Normal wear and tear from reasonable use is expected and accepted.

Damage & faults

If something doesn’t feel right, or if the wheel is damaged or develops a fault, please contact us as soon as possible.

  • Do not attempt repairs

  • Do not continue using faulty equipment

Prompt communication helps us resolve issues quickly and fairly.

What counts as normal wear and tear

Normal wear and tear includes:

  • minor cosmetic marks

  • light surface scratches

  • expected signs of regular use

This will not be deducted from your deposit.

What may result in deposit deductions

The following may result in deductions from your refundable deposit:

  • damage caused by misuse or negligence

  • electrical damage due to water exposure

  • missing parts or accessories

  • excessive clay buildup or poor cleaning

  • damage caused during unauthorised movement or transport

Any deductions will be discussed with you and supported by clear explanation.

Deposit details

  • A refundable deposit is required for all rentals

  • The deposit is held for the duration of the hire

  • It is returned once the wheel is collected and checked

Where deductions are necessary, we will notify you before the deposit is returned.

End of hire condition

At the end of your hire, the wheel should be:

  • clean

  • free from excess clay and water

  • safely accessible for collection

Please allow time for basic cleaning before collection.

Fair use

We aim to be fair and reasonable at all times.

Our approach is to protect equipment while recognising that pottery is a practical, hands-on activity.

If you’re ever unsure about care, cleaning, or use, just ask, we’re always happy to advise.
