​​​​​​About the wheel

 

The Shimpo Whisper-T is a studio-quality, full-size pottery wheel that’s ideal for anyone who wants the complete throwing experience at home.​

 

It offers excellent stability, making it particularly well suited to working with larger amounts of clay (over 2kg), and is exceptionally quiet, even at higher speeds.​

 

The wheel features adjustable leg heights, making it comfortable for both shorter and taller potters, and allowing you to fine-tune your working position. The removable side wings make cleaning easier and allow the wheel to pack down into a more compact footprint for transport.​

 

At approximately 45kg, the Whisper-T is heavier than a tabletop wheel and requires a two-person lift to move safely, but this weight contributes to its solid, stable feel during use.​

 

This is our preferred option for longer hires, returning potters, or anyone who wants a studio-style setup at home.

Alternative option: Full-size wheel

 

We also offer the Shimpo RK-5T Tabletop pottery wheel for customers who are short on space or new to pottery. This compact option is ideal for kitchens, spare rooms, and flats, while still offering excellent performance for home use.

What’s included with your hire

 

All Pottery @ Home rentals include the following equipment and essentials:

 

• Shimpo Whisper-T pottery wheel by Nidec Shimpo

• Pottery @ Home welcome pack (yours to keep)

• Cleaning & throwing essentials, including:

  • cleaning sponge

  • large bucket (for transport and cleaning)

• Setup installation instructions

 

Everything arrives ready to use.

Pottery @ Home Welcome Pack (yours to keep)

 

Your welcome pack is included with your first hire and is yours to keep. It contains everything you need to get started:

 

• Starter tool set

  • Needle tool

  • Wooden rib

  • Metal rib

  • Loop / trimming tool

  • Wire cutter

  • Sponge

• Clay

  • One bag of general-purpose stoneware clay (12.5kg), suitable for beginner and intermediate use

• Extras

  • Pottery @ Home apron

  • Quick-start guide covering setup, care, and basic use

  • Guidance on firing locally via KilnShare, so you know how and where to fire your work when it’s ready

• Delivery: Free delivery / collection across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Falkirk, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Fife (as far as Dunfermline), the Scottish Borders, and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

A refundable deposit is required for all rentals.
