Getting started
Do I need any prior pottery experience? No. Pottery @ Home is suitable for complete beginners as well as returning potters. Your hire includes a quick-start guide and everything you need to begin practising at home.
How much space do I need? A small, clear area is enough. Tabletop wheel: a sturdy table or worktop, plus room to sit comfortably Full-size wheel: roughly the footprint of a dining chair Many customers use kitchens, spare rooms, garages, or utility spaces.
Is pottery messy? Pottery can be a bit splashy, but it’s very manageable at home. We recommend: wiping surfaces after each session using a washable floor covering if needed keeping clay and tools contained All necessary cleaning essentials are included.
Is the wheel noisy? Both wheels are very quiet. They’re suitable for home use and won’t disturb neighbours or others in the house.
Equipment & setup
What power supply is needed? Both wheels plug into a standard UK household socket. No special wiring is required.
Do you install the wheel for me? The wheel arrives ready to use. Setup is straightforward and explained in the included guide. If you’ve never used a Shimpo wheel before, we include splash pan installation instructions.
How heavy is the wheel? Tabletop wheel: light enough for one person to move Full-size Whisper-T: approx. 45kg and requires a two-person lift This weight contributes to the stability of the full-size wheel.
