About the wheel
 
The Shimpo RK-5T Tabletop pottery wheel is a compact, high-quality wheel designed for home use, making it an excellent option for beginners or anyone short on space.
 
It’s quiet, reliable, and easy to set up, and can be used on a sturdy table or worktop in a kitchen, spare room, or studio corner. Despite its smaller footprint, it offers smooth, consistent performance that’s ideal for learning to throw and practising core techniques.
 
The RK-5T is lighter and easier to move than a full-size wheel, making it a practical choice for flats, shared spaces, or temporary setups. It’s well suited to smaller pieces and everyday practice, without the commitment or space requirements of a studio wheel.
 
This is our most popular option for first-time potters, those returning to pottery after a break, or anyone who wants to try pottery at home with minimal setup.
 
Alternative option: Full-size wheel
 
If you’re looking for a studio-style experience at home, we also offer the Shimpo Whisper-T full-size pottery wheel, which provides greater stability for larger pieces and a freestanding setup.
